355: Curt Thompson, M.D. on Why We Don’t Remember Our Stories Truthfully, How to Take the Risk of Vulnerability, Why Amazon Has Made Us Fragile, and What Transformation Requires

Podcast · August 30, 2023

This week, one of my favorite people is back on the podcast, Dr. Curt Thompson. Today, we’re talking about the role suffering plays in life. Suffering is a defining reality of life. Yet so many of us are so focused on avoiding discomfort that we’ve never learned how to actually suffer. But what if we could move from anxiety to durable hope? That’s what we’ll unpack with Curt today. Additionally, we’ll talk about why we don’t remember our stories truthfully, how to take the risk of vulnerability, why Amazon has made us fragile, and what the journey of transformation really requires.

Guest Bio:

Curt Thompson, M.D., is a psychiatrist in private practice in Falls Church, Virginia. He graduated from Wright State University School of Medicine and completed his psychiatric residency at Temple University Hospital. He is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. His clinical focus has been the treatment of adults, adolescents, and families. He actively engages in learning and education as he supervises clinical employees and facilitates ongoing education groups for patients and colleagues. Throughout his career, his primary focus of clinical and research interest has been the integration of psychiatry, its associated disciplines, and Christian spirituality.
