On a regular basis, I like to pursue the lives of leaders who are smarter, more successful, and those who possess greater influence than I do. Why? Because the day I stop learning and growing is the day I put a lid on my leadership capacity. And so, today is one of those days. Leaders aren’t born in a day; they’re born daily. That’s why this week, I’m joined by Todd Adkins, the director of leadership development for LifeWay, one of the largest Christian resource distributors in the world.
In this episode…
- Why formal education cannot replace hands-on apprenticeship.
- If you’re going to continue to grow and achieve the next level of leadership in your own life, you’re going to have to be disciplined to layout a framework to arrive at the desired destination. In short, don’t be on a cruise to nowhere.
- One of Todd’s daily disciplines: learn and teach daily. Make sure you have input and output. When you teach as well as learn, you’ll refine your thought processes.
- Regularly ask yourself, “What did I learn today?” Then endeavor to distill that into a concise, singular thought.
- Formal training is fantastic, but experience and coaching is what leads to transformation.
- A transfer of knowledge is not a transfer; it’s a transaction. The only way to develop competency is through knowledge, experience, and coaching.
- Life is not a finite game. Yet too often, our approach is either win or lose. Instead, we should be playing to get better.
- Focus on your now, not your next.
- There is no great achievement without focused energy.
